Hotels & Accommodation in Chippendale
With an unpretentious edge, a dynamic young community, and funky galleries, pubs and cafes constantly cropping up, the little inner city suburb of Chippendale is emerging as one of Sydney's up and coming destinations.
Located on the southern edge of Sydney's central business district, between Sydney Central railway station and the University of Sydney, Chippendale boasts excellent access to public transport and other attractions.
Once a working class area, Chippendale is enjoying an ongoing regeneration. The quiet, tree-lined streets feature charismatic 19th century workers' terraces and atmospheric old industrial buildings, with factories and warehouses now converted into residences. Other remarkable sites, some heritage listed, add yet more character, such as the grand St Benedict's Church and historic Regent Street railway station.
Shopaholics can feed their addictions at the magnificent 1920s Broadway Shopping Centre, which has four floors of department stores, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, a 12 screen multiplex cinema and more than 100 specialty stores.
Scattered elsewhere throughout Chippendale are lovely parks, interesting shops and gritty little art galleries and studios, waiting to be explored. The old factory workers' pubs have been transformed into trendy beer gardens, while cool cafes and bistros beckon to wandering appetites. Meanwhile, vibrant Newtown and its fashionable King Street are a leisurely five minute stroll away, as are bohemian Glebe and eclectic Surry Hills.
