Australia’s Capital City, Canberra, is the country’s largest inland city, with a population of around 350,000. Born out of rivalry between the opposing cities of Sydney and Melbourne, Canberra is centred around the beautiful Lake Burley Griffin, and offers a gateway to a world of historic towns, sites, with an abundance of natural attractions in close proximity.
Canberra sits strategically in the Australian Capital Territory south-west of Sydney and north-east of Melbourne, placing it just a couple of hours from breathtaking coastline that boast some of Australia’s most pristine beaches. Surrounded by vast National Park, there is every opportunity to get out and enjoy nature, from bushwalking, picnicking, camping, to wildlife watching.
Visitors to Canberra cannot miss driving the loop to reach the Snowy Mountains which passes through the historic towns of Bredbo, Cooma, Berridale, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Khancoban, Tumbarumba, Batlow, Tumut and Adaminaby. Those with a taste for adventure can take their pick from snowboarding, skiing, caving, abseiling and much more!
There is ample accommodation to choose from throughout the city, and visitors to Canberra have every reason to extend their stay from business to leisure. The Canberra International and Domestic Airport is only 15 minutes from the CBD, with leading hotels placed only minutes from a collection of restaurants, cafes, shops and key attractions.
The country's political hub, Canberra is home to Parliament House and the High Court, and is populated by many government departments and agencies, featuring an extensive collection of museums and organisations that play a significant role in preserving Australia’s cultural heritage.
Following Federation in 1901, The Australian Capital Territory was officially declared in 1911, and submissions were accepted for the city’s design. Chicago Architect Walter Burley Griffin was chosen as the winner of this world-wide competition, and his designs have dictated much of Canberra’s geographical layout, tree-lined streets, formal parks, gardens and water features, designed to compliment the city's natural attractions.
Breaking News about Canberra Accommodation
The Villas Palm Cove: Friendly and Fun - We loved the privacy of our own pool with spacious and comfortable accomodation
Crown Towers Resort: Excellent Resort - We found Crown Towers Resort to be perfect for us. Perfect family experience with everything needed for both adult's and children. The apartment was well setup, plenty of room and had an outstanding/amazing beach and city view. Better than could have ever imagined. The pool/lagoon was great and a perfect way to relax and let the kids have some fun all within the grounds of the resort. We will be coming back again and again.
The only negative thing I could say about the entire experience and stay was we had to leave at the end of the holiday and go back to reality………
Palms At Trinity: Perfect home away from home for us - While the room was nice and everything was in great order, the highlight of our stay at Palms at Trinity was our delightful and super efficient hostess Liz. Liz made it her business not only to make sure our accommodation needs were met, but also to help us craft the best possible holiday experience while we were in the area with her local advice and contacts. She was friendly and extremely helpful. I certainly hope we can arrange to stay there again in the future.
