About Canberra

Australia’s Capital City, Canberra, is the country’s largest inland city, with a population of around 350,000. Born out of rivalry between the opposing cities of Sydney and Melbourne, Canberra is centred around the beautiful Lake Burley Griffin, and offers a gateway to a world of historic towns, sites, with an abundance of natural attractions in close proximity.

Canberra sits strategically in the Australian Capital Territory south-west of Sydney and north-east of Melbourne, placing it just a couple of hours from breathtaking coastline that boast some of Australia’s most pristine beaches. Surrounded by vast National Park, there is every opportunity to get out and enjoy nature, from bushwalking, picnicking, camping, to wildlife watching.

Visitors to Canberra cannot miss driving the loop to reach the Snowy Mountains which passes through the historic towns of Bredbo, Cooma, Berridale, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Khancoban, Tumbarumba, Batlow, Tumut and Adaminaby. Those with a taste for adventure can take their pick from snowboarding, skiing, caving, abseiling and much more!

There is ample accommodation to choose from throughout the city, and visitors to Canberra have every reason to extend their stay from business to leisure. The Canberra International and Domestic Airport is only 15 minutes from the CBD, with leading hotels placed only minutes from a collection of restaurants, cafes, shops and key attractions.

The country's political hub, Canberra is home to Parliament House and the High Court, and is populated by many government departments and agencies, featuring an extensive collection of museums and organisations that play a significant role in preserving Australia’s cultural heritage.

Following Federation in 1901, The Australian Capital Territory was officially declared in 1911, and submissions were accepted for the city’s design. Chicago Architect Walter Burley Griffin was chosen as the winner of this world-wide competition, and his designs have dictated much of Canberra’s geographical layout, tree-lined streets, formal parks, gardens and water features, designed to compliment the city's natural attractions.

Breaking News about Canberra Accommodation
Kirra Surf Apartments:
Friendly Hotspot - Clean, luxury apartment with great amenities, excellent views and friendly staff.

Santorini Holiday Apartments:
Great Place to Stay... Highly Recommended - Lovely and roomy apartment; nice pool and spa area; friendly and helpful hosts. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Santorini. We will definitely be booking here again. Lots of restaurants and shops in walking distance. We didn't have to use our car once during our 5 night stay.

Condor Ocean View Apartments:
Location, Location, Location - One of the best things about Condor Ocean View Apartments is that it is is in the middle of everything. You only have to walk a couple of minutes to buy groceries, go out for dinner, clubs and the beach are all there too. The apartment was beautiful and the view was to die for both during the day and at night.

Windsurfer Resort:
Wonderful Hotel - On arrival we were thrilled with the service as we were a late arrival. The underground parking is marvelous and very convenient with a lift or stairs to the units. The Family Unit we had was very appropriate for the 3 generation age gap staying there. The unit was well set up for our stay with full kitchen and laundry facilities in the unit - no sharing. Very comfortable set-up, with a swimming pool and spa pool, but could swim across the road in the water if desired. Wonderful fitness/walking trail across the road, and childrens' playground just a short walk away in either direction.
