Welcome
Only 3km from Brisbane's CBD is the suburb of Bowen Hills – home of the EKKA. The Royal Queensland Show - affectionately known as the EKKA - is held every August at the Brisbane Exhibition Grounds. A popular attraction where city and country combine, the EKKA is a great family day out.
Bowen Hills is rich and diverse in culture, featuring the Twelfth Night Theatre and the Old Museum. The Twelfth Night Theatre has hosted many well known artists, such as Jon English, Paul Mercurio, John Inman (Better known as Mr Humphries), and Tottie Goldsmith. The Old Museum, on Gregory Terrace, now provides rehearsal and performance space for music and arts groups, such as Queensland Youth Orchestras.
Bowen Hills is renowned for its amazing old-style houses, which are slowly fading out and being replaced by new houses and apartments. The mix of quaint architectural styles makes this suburb well worth exploring. There are also a number of activites to do in Bowen Hills, such as watching a soccer match at Perry Park, or simply relaxing in one of the numerous cafes nearby.
Those who are looking for somewhere to pick up a new outfit can head to nearby Fortitude Valley, where a fantastic number of eclectic shops await!
