Tweed Heads is on the far north New South Wales coast, situated beside its twin town of Coolangatta in Queensland.

The region offers a relaxed pace lifestyle with unspoilt beaches, the Tweed River, a string of shops and quaint dining experiences. 

Tweed Heads shares a main street with Coolangatta, marking the border between Queensland and New South Wales. 

Visitors are encouraged to explore the Tweed River, enjoy a cruise and learn more about the region's history. There is also fishing and crabbing to take part in.

For fantastic views of the coastline, the Point Danger Lookout is highly recommended as, on a fine day, you can see from Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay. 

The Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre is also located in Tweed Heads and celebrates the indigenous inhabitants of the area with a collection of interesting exhibitions and displays.

Regional attractions include Tropical Fruit World and the Condong Sugar Mill. The glitz of Surfers Paradise is just a half hour up the road, and a little further on are the Gold Coast's major theme parks.

Consider hiring a car to visit the smaller coastal towns of New South Wales and experience the natural beauty of the coastline. Local markets, fresh fruit and vegetable, wineries, hidden swimming spots and walking trails are just waiting to be discovered.
