One of the most popular attractions of Warrnambool is the annual return of the Southern Right Whale. Between June and September, adult females arrive at Logan Beach, ready to bear and raise their calves. The whales then depart towards the end of September, leaving the area for another year. Designed by William Guilfoyle, the gardens have wide pathways, ideal for strolling or cycling, and a lily pond that makes a great background for picnics. The tranquil surroundings of the Botanic Gardens make it the ideal spot to wind down after a busy day of exploring.
