Welcome to Docklands
One of the newest suburbs of Melbourne, Docklands covers 200 hectares of land and water, and is comprised of nine districts. The area has 3 kilometres of Yarra River frontage, and there is a strong focus on the water.
Docklands is home to many spectacular eateries, ranging from high class restaurants to relaxed fish and chips cafes. There are more than 60 restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from, all providing an individual Docklands experience.
A must see during your time at Docklands is the Southern Star Observation Wheel. The only one of its kind in Australia, the wheel rises to 120 metres, and each of the 21 air conditioned cabins can hold up to 20 people.
A number of galleries can be found in the Docklands area, including Zephyr Gallery, Goya Galleries and Victoria Gallery. Located at Yarra's Edge, Zephyr Gallery is 19 metres of wall space, overlooking the river's edge. Goya Galleries is a contemporary commercial fine art gallery that not only exhibits, but also offers valuations, appraisals and consultations. Victoria Gallery hosts original Australian contemporary paintings and sculpture.
The Docklands area also has a number of public art pieces, adding further colour to the city. The self-guided 'Art Journey', covering 29 pieces, is the best way to experience it.
If you are after something a little louder, the Telstra Dome will beckon to you! Accommodating various sports - including soccer, AFL, cricket, rugby union and league - this stadium presents spectacular triumphs and devastating lows! Be sure to experience it for yourself.
