Welcome to Melbourne's City Fringe
Melbourne Fringes offer a lovely opportunity to stay near some of the greatest Victorian attractions, yet still within reasonable distance of the city. Enjoy the convenience, facilities and entertainment of Melbourne and appreciate the calm and the beauty of the surrounding fringes.
On the west and north sides of Melbourne are Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges. Here you can relax in one of the mineral spring and spas, browse in craft and antique shops and feel the European-influenced vestiges of the gold rush.
For those who need to stay near Melbourne's International Airport for business or other reasons, the Airport is situated on the northern fringe at Tullamarine.
In Melbourne's north-east fringe, you'll be surrounded by the scenic alpine landscapes of the High Country. A great spot for outdoor activities, the High Country also boasts a fascinating heritage of bushrangers, horsemen and gold mining, along with gourmet restaurants and some lovely wineries. Enjoy the proximity to snowfields such as Mount Buller, Falls Creek and Mount Hotham in winter. And experience mountain biking, horse riding or hiking in summer.
If you choose to stay on the eastern fringe of Melbourne you'll be at the doorstep of the famous Yarra Valley. World famous for its award-wining wineries and fine local food, the Yarra valley has one of the most beautiful countrysides in Victoria. Ancient mountain ranges, parks, towering trees, green valleys and unspoiled rivers...you can also admire the whole region from the sky in a hot air balloon.
On the south-east fringe of Melbourne is the Mornington Peninsula. Enjoy stunning beaches, dunes and cliffs, and picturesque lighthouses overlooking the calm water of Port Phillip Bay. Go sailing, fishing, swimming with dolphins, or penguin spotting. Here you'll also find tasty local wines and amazing golf courses.
Stay on the doorstep of the Great Ocean Road, in Melbourne's south-west. Stretching from Geelong to Nelson, the Great Ocean Road is one of the world's most scenic coastal drives. The most picturesque part is certainly between Lorne and Apollo Bay. Take a drive along the coast and stop to admire stunning beaches, spectacular cliffs, great surfing spots, lush forest, and beautiful seaside towns. Don't miss the famous Twelve Apostles, the main natural attraction of the area.
