The second largest city in Victoria, Geelong is also the fastest growing region in the state. Based around beautiful Corio Bay, this picturesque city has come of age in recent years, becoming a popular tourist destination in its own right.
Home to the Geelong Cats Australian Football League club, the city has a proud sporting background. Enjoy the atmosphere of a live Aussie Rules game at Skilled Stadium, or watch some of the many water sports that regularly take place in the area. Go for a waterski on Corio Bay, or have a row in the fresh waters.
Eastern Beach is a must see on any visit to Geelong. The unique Art Deco swimming area is surrounded by gardens and playgrounds, ideal for you to relax in, or for the kids to work off some excess energy! You can even enjoy a do-it-yourself meal on one of the public barbecues.
If you prefer shopping, a number of large department stores and smaller retailers can be found at Westfield Geelong. Market Square is also a popular choice for shoppers.
Geelong's airport, Avalon, hosts the largest airshow in Australia. Open to both industry professionals and the general public, the Australian International Airshow features flying displays, ground displays and 'night alight'.
For the mechanically minded, the Ford Discovery Centre is the leading interactive automotive museum in Australia. Featuring two real and interactive robots - a small sub assembly robot, and a body builder welding robot - the museum gives a hands-on experience. Visitors to the museum can also see the car that started a revolution - the Ford Model T.
