Welcome to Werribee
Located in the south-east of Melbourne, Werribee marks the halfway point between the city and Geelong.
Werribee's main shopping areas include Watton Street, home to a number of restaurants and services, and Werribee Plaza. The Plaza has a number of major retailers, as well as a host of specialty stores. If you are looking for a little variety in your shopping, you will find it here.
For a piece of history and culture, check out Werribee Park. Ten hectares of formal gardens, including the acclaimed Victoria State Rose Garden, await you. Explore the exquisite mansion left behind by Thomas and Andrew Chirnside, two Scottish brothers determined to rise above their humble backgrounds. The 60 room mansion is surrounded by extravagant gardens and the impressive 19th century Italianate style is open for the public to observe.
Amazing designs and bright colours will catch your eye as you wander along the sculpture walk of Werribee Park. Likewise, the colour of more than 5,000 roses will draw you in to study the featured displays of the Rose Garden. Although spectacular all year round, the Rose Garden is most impressive from November to April.
For parklands of a different nature, no trip to Werribee is complete without a visit to Werribee Open Range Zoo. A slightly surreal experience, the zoo allows visitors to partake in an open vehicle adventure or a canoe safari. Talk about 'Out of Africa'! Open every day of the year, the zoo allows you to come face to face with the king of the jungle, or see a new arrival - the baby hippopotamus.
Just east of Werribee is Point Cook, housing the RAAF aviation museum. Take a guided tour with museum staff to gain an insight into Australian aviation history. The base is a fully operational flying unit of the RAAF, so functioning aircraft do take to the skies at times.
Golf fans can take in the 18 hole course located in a prime position between the Werribee River and Werribee Park. Werribee Park Golf Club is championship length, with an open design. The bunkers and water hazards will test all players - even the most experienced!
For a golfing day the kids can enjoy, drop in to Sistems Golf Park. This mini golf park takes in waterfalls, stony beach and a tin tank. Compete against each other at mini golf, and see who comes out with the best scorecard at the end! There's also a driving range and golfing lessons available for visitors.
