Welcome to Bass Hill
With a rich mulitcultural character and a wide range of recreational facilities close at hand, the southwestern Sydney suburb of Bass Hill is an ideal location for those wishing to escape the crowds, but is still just half hour from the city centre.
Bass Hill benefits from a very culturally diverse community, reflected in the diverse array of restaurants, cafes and takeaway outlets featuring cuisines from around the globe. From yum cha to some of Sydney's best Lebanese eateries to fine a la carte dining, there is something to suit all tastes and budgets.
The main shopping centre, Bass Hill Plaza, offers a wide variety of shops including major retailers, fashion outlets, continental gourmet delis, fresh food stores and numerous eateries. Each Sunday, treasure hunters can scoop up bargains at Bankstown Markets, which feature a huge array of new and secondhand goods, quality arts and crafts, fresh produce and intercontinental food vendors.
Bass Hill offers countless recreational centres and sporting fields, ideal for athletics, cricket, cycling, hockey, rugby league and soccer. The Crest state-of-the-art sporting complex and Dunc Grey Velodrome, home of the 2000 Olympic Games track cycling and Cycling World Cup, are major drawcards for sports buffs. Telstra Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park, Bankstown Golf Course, Warwick Farm racecourse and Eastern Creek Raceway are also within close range. Those who prefer to take it a little easier can enjoy the nostalgia of the Drive-in Theatre at Bass Hill, one of only two remaining in Sydney.
The Australian Aviation Museum houses a fantastic collection of aircraft and aviation artifacts, including Tiger Moths, Mosquito Bombers, vintage uniforms and much more. You can even board a plane at Bankstown General Aviation Airport next door and take a tour over the Blue Mountians, Sydney Harbour or the Australian outback.
When it's time to unwind, Mirambeena Regional Park is the perfect spot for a family picnic or barbecue. Go boating or water-skiing on the Georges River, take a bushwalk, challenge friends to a team game, or just relax on the banks of picturesque Lake Gillawarna.
