>> An Introduction To Haymarket

Haymarket is located at the southern end of Sydney's central business district, flanked by Darling Harbour and Central Train Station. Just a 15 minute bus ride from Circular Quay, Haymarket is a bustling inner city hub that incorprates Chinatown, the Spanish Quarter, Railway Square, and some of Sydney's best shopping and entertainment.

Haymarket has been a thriving market centre since the 19th century, when Sydney's cattle, grain and later produce markets were established there. Today, this tradition continues with Paddy's Market, one of Sydney's largest and most popular flea markets. It sells a huge variety of goods, including fruit and vegetables, clothing, homewares, CDs, flowers, jewellery and souvenirs. Upstairs in the same building, the Market City complex houses a modern shopping centre featuring restaurants, designer boutiques, factory outlets, specialty shops and cinemas.

Sydney's colourful Chinatown and Spanish Quarter give Haymarket a distinctly multicultural flavour. Explore Chinatown's exciting mix of food halls, noodle bars, grocers and quirky gift shops for authentic Asian cuisine or products. Consult a Chinese herbalist for an Eastern remedy, sample assorted lunchtime delicacies for 'yum cha' or dine as late (or early) as 4am at one of 80 restaurants. Wander or meditate in the beautiful Chinese Garden of Friendship among reflective pools and traditional temples, or experience all the fun and spectacle of Sydney's biggest Chinese New Year celebrations.

Around the corner on Liverpool Street, you'll find the dynamic Spanish Quarter and its array of excellent Spanish restaurants, tapas bars and gourmet delis. Stock up on delicious jamon and chorizo, feast on paella, watch (or take part in) some lively flamenco dancing, and enjoy tapas and sangria long into the night.

Haymarket has quickly become a late night entertainment precinct, with bars, theatres and cinemas pulsating into the night. Visit the Capitol Theatre or Sydney Entertainment Centre to see one of the hottest bands in concert, international sporting events, stage musicals, or even the circus.

When it comes to dining, shopping and entertainment, the choices in Haymarket are endless.
