Potts Point is a tiny suburb located in inner Sydney. Measuring only one kilometre long by 200 metres wide, Potts Point forms part of Kings Cross, and has developed a reputation as one of the trendiest suburbs in Sydney.
Originally home to wealthy land owners, Potts Point was once covered in grand old 19th century manors, few of which survive. Potts Point sits upon a ridge in the harbour, with its point home to the Garden Island Naval Base. This is the major east coast base of the Australian Navy and is home to many of the Navy's ships. Garden Island was originally an island in the harbour, but as the naval base grew it was joined to the mainland at Potts Point. International cruise liners such as the Queen Mary II now dock here as they are too large to fit under the Harbour Bridge.
Potts Point is a food lover's delight, with the surrounding areas featuring more than 200 restaurants all waiting to be tried. Grab some dinner before heading to Darlinghurst Road with its great choice of nightclubs, bars and theatres. If shopping is more your style, Macleay Street is the place for you, with its clothing boutiques, homewares stores and trendy cafes.
Head to the Darlinghurst Theatre and experience a production by independent theatre companies. This 111 seat theatre allows for an intimate experience, enabling you to get caught up with the action on stage.
Enjoy a picnic at Embarkation Park in Victoria Street. Bring a basket and spread a rug, and take in the absolutley stunning views of Woolloomooloo Bay and Sydney Harbour.
