Visit Sydney's West
The original suburbs of Sydney, those in the inner west, have a bohemian flavour that makes them alternative but still affordable. Parramatta, the historical heart of Sydney, is an electric commercial and retail centre, and less than half an hour from the CBD. For reasonable eateries, eclectic shopping and a lovely inner city feel, King Street in Newtown is hard to beat.
A crazy mix of activists, intellectuals and alternative lifestylers reside in the precinct of Glebe. Stroll along Glebe Point Road and discover alternative therapies, new age shops, bookstores, lively pubs and cheap eateries that cater for the eclectic community.
The home of Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush is a thriving centre for sport, tourism and entertainment. Stretching out to the Blue Mountains, the suburban centres of Liverpool and Campbelltown house more than half of the city's population.
For all things Italian, the suburb of Leichhardt is filled with delis, cafes and restaurants featuring an irresistible array of gourmet delights. From Leichhardt Marketplace Shopping Centre, one of Sydney's finest foreshore walks will take you to Balmain's Gladstone Park, or you can discover the area's history on the Italian Heritage Walk.
