Welcome to Magnetic Island
Magnetic Island is part of a string of gorgeous Tropical North Queensland Islands found off the coast of Queensland. Situated just 8 kilometres from Townsville, guests also have easy access to the Great Barrier Reef from this pristine location.
With a friendly and tight-knit community, variety of holiday resorts, and plenty of things to see and do, Magnetic Island is the perfect place for couples, families and small groups to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Renowned for being the only island with an untouched National Park (as well as being touted the sunniest city on the Queensland coast), half of the land is covered in pines, thriving rainforest and eucalypt forest. Mt. Cook sits in the centre of the island, rising to a great 497 metres.
As Magnetic Island is located within the waters of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the island is ideal for diving and exploring the stunning coral reefs. Whether you wish to depart from shore or a boat, the glass-like visibility of the water makes any adventure simply jaw-dropping.
Shipwrecks are a great way to soak up the history of the area, with the ‘Yongala’ being named in the top 5 best wreck dive sites in the world.
While on land, be sure to check out the sweeping beaches which are accessible by road and foot. Featuring well-lit areas for those special night drives, this tropical island provides activities even after the sun goes down.
Magnetic Island boasts a beautiful climate the entire year round, with warm sunny days and pleasant nights usually appearing on the weather forecast. The average maximum temperature is 29 degrees Celsius throughout the year, while the minimum is approximately 19 degrees Celsius
