>> An Introduction To Phillip Island

Victoria's famous Phillip Island - only a 90 minute drive from Melbourne boasts breathtaking natural beauty and a myriad of attractions for all ages to enjoy.

Home to the world famous Penguin Parade and to some of Australia's most popular natural wildlife attractions, including Koala reserves.  Get up close to these gorgeous little penguins, and come face to face with snoozing koalas.

For the animal lover it doesnt come any more varied or accessible than Phillip Island. The island is home to thousands of species which, because of their isolation from the mainlaind, have bred into a unique habitat.

Phillip Island is also renowned as one of the most consistent and varied surf locations in Australia. The swell is rarely too small to surf, during the year Phillip Island plays host to many surf clinics and tournaments. For the beginner or those wanting to refine their skills book a lesson and enjoy a couple of days on the island

Fishing is a big industry around Phillip Island, a pleasant day can be had tossing a line in from the jetties at Cowes, Rhyll, Newhaven, San Remo and Corinella. Charter fishing expeditions depart from Rhyll and San Remo.

With 100 kilometres of coastline and more than a quarter of the island conserved for the environment, Phillip Island's walking and cycling tracks are suited to all abilities.

Plus many other "get active" choices from golf at one or two courses on the island, kayaking, surfing as mentioned, and the cycling and walking adventures.

Phillip Island is also home to the Australian Motorcyle Grand Prix, VS SuperCar Championship series,  World Championship Superbikes and the Australian Touring Car Championships.

The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Visitor Centre offers you the opportunity to get your motor running with HSV hot laps, go go-karting at Champ Karts or take a guided circuit tour.

The island's main city is Cowes, a choice of cafes, restaurants, shop for souvenirs, artisan wares, or visit the Cultural Centre and the Musuem.

The township of Rhyll is a sheltered port where you can wine and dine in the village, with a general store, winery and trout fishing farm

Newhaven, a fishing village with jetty, boat ramp and marina.  Close to Churchill Island with historic farm bulidings and original homestead, cafe and gracious gardens.

Or San Remo, the gateway to Phillip Island the place to snap up fresh seafood at the San Remo Fisherman's Cooperative, but be quick as the resident pelicans are also partial to the village's bounty.

No matter what your time frame, budget or passion - there is something for everyone on Phillip Island
