>> An Introduction To Perth

Touted as Australia’s sunniest capital city, 3000 hours of sunshine a year is a good enough reason on its own to mark this Australian capital down on the must see list.

The capital of Western Australia, Perth sits beside the widest stretch of the Swan River with the port city of Freemantle built at the River mouth.

While nothing is very far from the CBD, Perth boasts an efficient and effective transport system with free buses moving tourists around the city centre and other tourist destinations.

There is a bus and train station in the centre of town along with a wide variety of quality accommodation options.

The self confessed shopaholic will find themselves in retail heaven once making their way to the upmarket King Street.

This is definitely the place to be seen, packed full of designer boutiques, coffee houses, art galleries and even the odd celebrity or two.

Those looking for department and fashion chain stores will have all their needs satisfied with what they find in the Murray Street and Hay Street Malls.

Then when it comes to having appetites appeased or choosing somewhere to catch up with friends there is a fantastic selection of beachfront and riverside cafés and restaurants.

For a more relaxed rendezvous, thrown down the rug, pull out the picnic hamper and enjoy the ambience of the Kings Park Botanical Gardens then try the nearby treetop walk for a fantastic view of the city.

Western Australia also boasts one of the most successful wine regions with over 150 operating wineries. A 30 minute drive from the city will see you arrive at the Swan Valley, especially well known for its fortified wines which are well suited to the hot Perth summer.

The Margaret River is another popular wine tasting destination, only discovered for its grape growing success about 30 years ago.

From the gum-tree lined gardens, captivating vineyards, vibrant city centre and 80 kilometres of white sandy beaches – this Western Australian city really does have it all!
