Driving in Byron Bay

If you would prefer to explore Byron Bay with a bit more freedom, driving is an ideal option. Rental cars are easily available and can be conveniently delivered to your hotel door.

Take a drive and explore some of the nearby villages including Ocean Shores, Mullumbimby, Suffolk Park, Brunswick Heads, South Golden Beach, Bangalow and New Brighton.

Parking, Speed Limits and Road Rules

Inexpensive metered parking is available in the central areas of Byron Bay:
Main Beach Carpark, encompassing Bay and Johnson Streets; Lawson Street North Carpark; and the Lawson Street South Carpark.

Speed limits and distances are expressed in kilometres (km) and a speed limit of 50km/h is enforced in residential and commercial areas, unless otherwise indicated. On highways the speed limit is usually 100km/h, unless otherwise indicated.
