Canberra Water Sports
Hoping to do some windsurfing while in Canberra?
Despite Canberra’s inland location, Australia’s capital is placed only 2.5 hours from surf beaches on the South East Coast, and has many tranquil lakes not far from the CBD that provide a platform for recreational water sports such as surfing and windsurfing.
Depending on the conditions, East Basin, Blue Gum Point and Old Hospital on the Lake Burley Griffin offer favourable breezes, and Posers Point Yarralumla, Lake Tuggeranong, Lake George, and Lake Ginninderra are other spots worth considering.
Join a professional fishing tour and reel in something fishy on your trip to the Nation’s Capital.
Fish in the heart of Canberra on Lake Burley Griffin, and pull in Red Fin, Murray Cod and Carp, or opt for a bit of trout fishing on the Cotter and Goodradigbee Rivers.
The Namadgi National Park also provides some excellent opportunities to throw a line out, as do the Snowy Mountains and the South East Coastline.
Hire a canoe, kayak, or paddle boat from the Canberra Yacht Club and entertain the family out on one of Canberra’s fine lakes.
Join with the locals and other tourists and experience the Capital from the water. Choose from a range of Canoe and Kayak Adventures including Lake Burley Griffith Tour, and the Wetlands Tour.
For the more experienced, ACT has an abundance of rivers and creeks in its National Parks that are ready to be discovered.
Sailing is a challenging, team building activity and is a fun way to spend your leisure time in the great outdoors.
Sail out on Lake Burley Griffin, Lake Tuggeranong, or Lake Ginninderra.
The Canberra Yacht Club and YMCA Sailing Club provide courses to children and adults, and you don’t have to be an experienced swimmer to learn to sail.
Learn to waterski and wakeboard on one of Canberra’s lakes and rivers.
Be taught by a professional and receive advice on technique to increase your skill and make your waterskiing or wakeboarding experience as enjoyable as possible.
