Driving in Canberra
When driving in Canberra it may often be necessary to turn left to go right! With so many roundabouts the roads are sure to put you in a spin.
100 km/h is the maximum speed limit on roads outside a built-up area where no other speed limit is signposted.
50 km/h is the maximum speed limit on roads within a built up area unless a different speed limit is signposted.
Special speed zones apply around areas such as schools, worksites, and shared zones, and will be signposted. It is illegal not to follow these speed limits.
These default speed limits are applied in Canberra and across Australia. Any road with a speed limit different to the default limit is signposted accordingly.
