Darwin Parks & Gardens

The picturesque Casuarina Coastal Reserve is 20 minutes from the city and features white sandy beaches boarded by Casuarina trees and sandstone cliffs.
An area of cultural significance, there are several sacred Aboriginal sites protected by the reserve, and although fishing is permitted the removal of shellfish is prohibited.
Facilities in the area include barbecues, tables, and picnic spots, the ideal place to relax under a shady tree and enjoy the smell of the salt air.

The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens is situated just minutes from Darwin's CBD and near the popular Mindil Beach and golf links ovals.
Visit the gardens, throw down a rug, and enjoy a picnic lunch with friends and family in one of the garden’s barbecue areas.
From beautiful pools and waterfalls to tropical rainforest walks, viewing tree house, and large grass areas for children, there is plenty to do and see at this iconic site.

Howard Springs Nature Park is situated 30 kilometres from Darwin.
Although swimming is no longer allowed, there are lots of shady picnic areas that provide views of the beautiful spring-fed waterhole.
Feed the many Barramundi that live in the water, and if you are lucky you might even spot a turtle or two! Utilise the barbecue facilities, or take a stroll down one of the surrounding walking tracks to soak in the clean air.

Mary River National Park is situated on the Arnhem Highway, and is 2.5 hours from Darwin.
The best time to visit is during the Dry Season, from May to September, when the temperature, humidity, and rainfall levels are lower.
The park features a collection of recreational attractions including freshwater billabongs, paperbark and monsoon forests, and offers great wildlife watching, fishing, and trekking opportunities.
