Slow down when approaching railway crossings and be sure to stop to check both left and right that the lines are clear before moving your vehicle across the tracks. Not all railway crossings have warning systems for approaching trains and it is mandatory to check both ways are clear before crossing any railway line.
It is Australian law for all passengers to wear their seatbelts at all times while they are in the vehicle, and drivers must not exceed the 0.05% blood alcohol limit. Beware of driver fatigue, stop for a 15 minute break every 2 hours of driving, and avoid driving after dark as wildlife come out at night and often assemble alongside the highway (rental car insurance does not cover driving after dark).
