Hundreds of acres of vines and a new generation of talent has seen the creation of quality Queensland wines that are gaining acceptance nationally and internationally. As food and wine aficionados demand more, the burgeoning industry is seeing more cellar doors open and scores of vignerons and their families warmly welcome visitors to experience the fruits of their passionate labours.
The Gold Coast hinterland cradles the region's burgeoning wine industry. Graceful old churches and homesteads now play host to cellar door tasting and award-winning restaurants. The hinterland also hosts some new players with state-of-the-art equipment and methods providing a contrast to time-honoured techniques.
Whichever you choose, you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of crisp fruity Sauvignons, Verdelhos and Chardonnays, and the full-bodied Merlots and Shiraz.
To discover the wineries in the Gold Coast hinterland, take an organised tour or follow one of the self-drive Food and Wine Trails.
