Perth Cultural Centre

The Perth Cultural Centre is an area of central Perth, which is one of Perth's key public spaces, housing the State's most significant cultural and learning institutions, including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Western Australian Museum, Perth Gaol, Alexander Library, State Records Office and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is situated in Perth Cultural Centre offering historical and contemporary Australian Arts.
The gallery houses the State Art Collection, including one of the world's finest collections of Indigenous art, the pre-eminent collection of Western Australian art and design, as well as Australian and International art and design.

Situated in Perth Cultural Centre, the Western Australian Museum-Perth explores the stories and culture of the local Noongar Aboriginal people, the effects of European settlement, the state's unique flora, fauna and biodiversity and the years when dinosaurs,mega-fauna and meteorites once inhabited the land.

The Perth Gaol was built in the Perth Cultural Centre in the 1850s to incarcerate convicts. It operated until early 1888 after all the prisoners were transferred to Fremantle Prison. Discover the history of the gaol and its prisoners, read about the executions, walk through the rooms and view the old fashioned dental surgery and pharmacy.

The State Records Office is located in side the Alexander Library Building in the Perth Cultural Centre and is responsible for providing record keeping services to the government, preserving the state archives collection and making state archives accessible for researches.
