Cassowary Coast Arts and Culture

There is a great interest in arts and culture throughout the Cassowary Coast region with several art societies and performing arts groups. Indigenous artists are a growing force in the region, influenced by local groups. The Mamu Aboriginal Corporation and the Girringun Aboriginal Corporation.

The Mamu Aboriginal Corporation was established in 2001 by the traditional owners of Innisfail, Mamu Aboriginal community members, and have taken the lead roll in all matters affecting the Indigenous people of the area. The Girringun Aboriginal Corporation represents the interests of traditional owners from nine tribal groups around the Cassowary Coast region.
