The hotel was clean and the room was ready when we arrived - not always the case! Great Breakfast on the beautiful verandah. The bathrooms were very good. This historic hotel should be upgraded by some imaginative owners as it is well located and basically very attractive and clearly of historic importance to Cairns.

The central location made everything accessible. The lower pricing gave us extra to spend around town. The heritage style of hotel was relaxing and comfortable. Breakfast on the verandah was lovely.

Very Central location which meant we quickly became familiar with all of central Cairns. Every question /request of reception staff was met with helpful response - fantastic!

The location and the chance to sit in the balcony, relax and have a look at all the bustling activities in the City Place !! this is the first time ever I stayed in a hotel where the bathrooms were not attached !!! May be my oversight in booking. Can't blame you. The old, Victorian setting of the building, the wooden carved pillars of the Breakfast room are something to Cherish. Indeed reminds one of a by gone heritage !! This hotel reminded me of another Victorian Era Hotel built by the British in Calcutta, India. Very similar structure but Hides is in much better Condition, of course.

Complete surprise from arriving to leaving. Having booked on line the cheapest room we could find because we were only staying a few hours before we flew out of the country the next morning we arrived with a few doubts. We arrived at 1am expecting a half asleep attendant. Wrong! We were greeted by a very wide awake on the ball concierge. After being quickly and efficiently checked in we set off to our room expecting everything to go downhill from there. (Only paying about $40 a room) Wrong! We walked into a very pleasing spotless clean bright pleasant room with coffee and tea facilities. Because we had not asked about en suite (for the first time in about 15 years) I went in search of the bathroom which I found right next door. (We stayed in number 88). It did remind me of my old school toilet and showers (I am 65 years old) but again very bright and spotless clean. Another big surprise was breakfast in with the price. OK it was only cereal, toast coffee and tea but very adequate. I say all this because I was expecting to get what I paid for. But was knocked out to finally find real value for money. I have already recommended this hotel to friends and family. Also it is why I was happy to receive this Email and be able to share our experience of the hotel with you.

There were many positive aspects of my stay at Hides. 1. Reception staff were always friendly and super helpful, day and night. 2. Breakfast on the verandah was the everyday highlight. I treasure old buildings and loved the atmosphere at breakfast time. (and better still, breakfast is included in the tariff). 3. Rooms were extremely clean. Even the public toilets on the second floor. 4. Location was super excellent. Could't ask for a better location. Great for the Esplanade, shopping, and especially got to use the public bus services because we were at the terminus. 5. I hired a car for 3 days and it was great to have parking access at the hotel. 6. And last but not least, the price! Great value. Even though I upgraded to a room with facilities, it was quite reasonable. 7. Great to mix with a variety of clients...so obviously the Hotel appealed to a variety of age groups.
